Behavior Expectations
(Match, Tournament & Practice)
Behave like young ladies and gentlemen; you will be representing yourself, your family and your school. Tennis, unlike other high school sports, is officiated on the courts by the participants themselves. At all times you are expected to display appropriate tennis etiquette. There is no room for bad line calls, thrown rackets or any offensive behavior on the Dunwoody Tennis team. When you walk off the court, win or lose, there will be no question in the other team's mind that you have displayed the utmost character and integrity. Infractions for inappropriate behavior will include a warning for the first offense and being pulled from the courts for a forfeit on any subsequent problems. It is important that we treat team mates, coaches, opponents and spectators with respect.
The coaches take personnel matters such as making line-ups very seriously and many variables are considered when making these decisions. DO NOT complain about these matters. Players should discuss concerns directly with the coach. Coaches will not discuss line-ups or playing time with the parents. Violations of the policy will not be tolerated and may result in dismissal from the team.
Cheering for your teammates at the match is a unique and exciting part of being on your high school team; however, cheering against the opponent is never appropriate. Players and parents should be respectful of all players on the court and cheer for a great shot or hustle but should not cheer for a bad shot from our opponents. We should never cheer for double-faults or make comments on calls. Coaches are the only ones that may communicate with the players while they are on the court.
Use of tobacco products, illegal drugs (including abuse of prescription drugs) or alcohol will not be tolerated and may result in dismissal from the team.
